Connecting A World of Innovators
Setting
Today, Grants.gov makes over $721 billion in federal funding opportunities accessible to the American public by connecting more than 1 million monthly users with 26 grant-making agencies.
In 2002, the office was established within The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It’s founding vision:
“To provide a central platform facilitating the federal grant application and award process for applicants and federal grant-making agencies.”

The Challenge
Across a world of grants, we observed applicants with higher expectations for mobile-friendly and intuitive experiences. We also observed a rise of competitive private industry tools seeking to challenge The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ role as the de facto facilitator of federal non-profit funding.
Our mission is to transform the Grants.gov legacy product into a platform for a new era of discovery.
The Outcome
Grants.gov—our nation’s home for federal non-profit funding—now rests on a modern foundation, upheld by product, brand, and CX pillars, and provides shelter for millions within the grants community. Rebuilding this platform alongside three unique cross-functional teams and the office of the Director of Grants.gov, we achieved the following performance YoY:
New users increased by 24%
Active usage increased by ~18%
Over 75,000 additional submissions processed
New IC within the U.S. Department of HHS at large
A Citizen Community
The Grants.gov ecosystem is home to millions of scattered innovators seeking federal funding (applicants) and the 27 federal grant-making agencies awarding the discretionary funds (grantors). Discover how we’re making innovation accessible to connect a world of innovators.
